My Daemon!

So I know I should be doing homework, but this is a break from painstaking research on Donne. Plus, I mean, DAEMONS. Seriously. (Also I took the test twice & it gave me an ocelot both times, so even though I tend to think of my daemon leaning more toward the pinemarten/ermine side of animals, ocelot was the one I chose when we made cat-people characters as a kid, & hey...I'll take him.)

I KNOW. Go get one! It's really silly but ridiculously fun...

I think they take names from Shakespeare & history & stuff & twist them slightly. I mean, Rasthmus? Erasmus, anyone?

[identity profile] karma--dogs.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Mine was Erasmus! And an ocelot like yours.

[identity profile] elanor-two.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Does that mean we're essentially the same person?

[identity profile] karma--dogs.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
I guess so...? A great compliment :D

[identity profile] elanor-two.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Awww. :D (Anyway the minute we both wrote Golden Compass in the As You cast book I knew we were meant to be....)

I submitted to a mix of geekery and curiousity, and got a wolf, so that was pretty cool. I must've filled out the form totally dishonestly, but I'll definately take it.

[identity profile] elanor-two.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, rock on. Maybe not so dishonestly. You never know...

Artemis the ocelot...who is female.

Come on, Artemis TOTALLY a guy's name...

[identity profile] seachild-elf.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
Artemis a guy's name?! *splutters* You try and say that to the Greek goddess Artemis, goddess of the hunt and the moon. She's a bit on the vengeful side too, ask Aktaioon for starters.

I've got to say the site of the Golden Compass looks very spiffy and cool. I've also nabbed me an ocelot daemon, by the name of Gabriel. Personally I think an ocelot is too magnificent an animal to be be fitted as my daemon but I'm not going to complain. An ocelot! *squees*

[identity profile] countcomfect.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Fine, fine, I'll accept that (although I've seen it as a guy's name before, several times).

Ocelots!

[identity profile] seachild-elf.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, you're right, I've come across a decent number of male characters named Artemis in stories, which always manages to draw some sniggering from me. I'm constantly reminded of that song, 'a boy named Sue'. :-D

[identity profile] countcomfect.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"And I think if I ever have a son, I'm going to name him... Bill, or George, any damn thing but Sue. I still hate that name."

[identity profile] elanor-two.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Pshaw! Artemis was a GODDESS. That's female.

[identity profile] adragontongue.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
one word:

SHINY

[identity profile] elanor-two.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
YES.

[identity profile] jptiger.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
It's a girl. Her name's Eamalia.

She's a tiger.

I was honestly kind of surprised, especially at the "solitary" part (I prefer to think of it as "independent", I'm plenty social when I want to be.) I didn't think I had answered any of the social questions any lower than "neutral". I tried artificially upping my more social answers ("of course I LOVE crowds!!! YAY!") and I got a Crow, and a Spider, in that order. I figure I'll stick with my tiger.

well, hallo, eamalia.

[identity profile] elanor-two.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not suprised.

(& I would see the solitary part as not necessarily preferring solitude to socializing always, but being particular about socializing & who with, & also wanting to take time away from most people every once in a while. That's how I am, anyway. "independent" is probably better, but the webmaster might not be a word geek.)

Re: well, hallo, eamalia.

[identity profile] jptiger.livejournal.com 2007-04-29 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe. I'm actually not at all picky about who I socialize with, I find that I like the vast majority of people I meet, even if sometimes they clash horribly when they meet each other.

But now that I think about it, I do work on my own by default. I prefer taking time to spend on my own, and while I like to lead in groups, I almost always choose independence over being a follower in one. I'm not really a part of any one tight-knit group, I'm a regular guest to many different ones. Even if I work well with others and really like others, most of my life is spent alone.

It's a strange thing to realize.

Daemons are suggestions, I think, more than directions for how someone is. Which is to say that none of the adjectives that associate with tiger are necessarily how you are all the time, so being a happily social tiger is not an oxymoron, I suppose.
If she were real, you could ask her...although daemons are notoriously evasive on the subject of themselves.
