a short story i just told leeann, from wednesday night

(I forgot to post this--one more entertaining adventure in life.)

On Wednesday night I was at the Rosebud (a lovely little bar near SU, which doesn't card, which is why all the drama kids go there all the time). I was sitting at the bar with my friend Andy, sipping at my vodka & cran, waiting for my payment to go through, chatting away. A lady I had never met before in my life comes up to the other side of me & asks, very sweetly & earnestly, "Would you like to do pin-up burlesque?"

(My mind says, What? Who are you? A burlesque recruiter?!) I glance over at Andy, who just waggles his eyebrows at me, & turn back to the lady & say, "I'd...never thought about it." (Tentative is the way to go!)

She then proceeds to tell me that there's a workshop going on this weekend with Amy GoGo (I think that's her name)--makeup & hair on Saturday, photo shoot Sunday! It's only $150, & she thinks I'd really like it (how she knows this, since we've never met, is beyond me).
I tell her I'll think about it, & thanks for letting me know, & she reiterates how enjoyable it'll be, & then goes back to her end of the bar.

...I was flattered? & also a little flabbergasted. But if it didn't cost $150, I might have gone. Camille is convinced I'll grow up to be a burlesque teacher...this would be good training. Haha.

Wow! Not that I'm likely to be asked (I'm too skinny for burlesque I think!) but that would be awesome. I got stopped and asked to do some modelling in London once but a) I was only there for the day and b) they were probably creepy con artists (though they were both women) but I still kind of wish I'd been able to do it!

There isn't really a body type for burlesque, to be honest. There's some skinny, some not. it all really depends on what you do with yourself. :)

It sounds like it could be fun--modeling or burlesquing. & Elsa's right (below)--any body type works, as long as you...work it. :D

My first reaction was irrational jealousy of someone else trying to get your clothes off. My second was realizing that I get even more bragging rights ("Why yes, I'm dating a __________"). My third was "wait a second, you pay them?"

Meanwhile this was all happening while I'm at the Falcon, (a grimy little bar near U(c), which doesn't card, which is why half my friends go every Wednesday) and a lady I've never met before in my life sidles up to me and asks us what we're talking about. When we try to explain it for ten minutes and she still doesn't understand that Dark Star is a song and the Grateful Dead is not a cover band, I gave up and let Zach handle it. I'm not sure he's forgiven me yet.

I'm not sure she was trying to get my clothes off so much as get me to pay for training on how to take some of them off myself. (Haha, you & your bragging rights...oh dear. When do I get to say I'm dating a Mafia Don?) & yes, that's a big reason why I wouldn't. (I'm perfectly capable of taking off my own clothes without paying someone else to do it...)

...well...at least she got that Grateful Dead was a band at all? (& I bet Zach had fun! Don't let him fool you. Heh.)

Oh lord.

The day we become a mafia don dating a burlesque dancer/teacher is going to be one helluva day.

You know how to contact my mom, right?

Hehe....yes, or rather I'm sure I can when I decide to go in for Camille's predicted career. Hey, if acting doesn't work out...there's always taking off my clothes. Plus I can tap dance, so...yeah. :D
