It's still freezing here, & I mean that literally. I think the high temperatures lately are hovering around 35 or so. The snow from a few days ago is still around, in slippery patches of black ice on the sidewalks & frosty white crusts on rooftops. It's supposed to snow more tonight, or so I've heard, but the sky was clear all today. I've been wearing more layers than should be allowed, which means I'm constantly shedding sweaters & coats & gloves when inside. I'm suprised I haven't lost anything (although I suppose I'd notice pretty quick when I went back outside.)
Margaret of Anjou is getting interesting--this whole intersection of politics & gender & custom is just crazy. & no one's talking about parliament so far--I think there's been one mention of it, that it got deferred in November of 1543, right before Margaret submitted her bill of regency. (That would be a fun--& bizarre--alternate history, if Margaret had in fact passed that bill. I wonder if York would still have had a fit?) I'm still worried about the amount of reading I'm doing (or rather not doing, or rather panicking about doing)--& this, coming from the girl whose first identification as a child was "I read books."
Tonight Andrew & Andy & I went to see Edward Albee speak at the Rep. It was really good, but I'm still all on the fence about him & his writing. The only plays of his I'm familiar with are The Goat & The Lady From Dubuque--the first I thought was astounding & amazing, the second sort of deep but also really frustrating. His talk--or rather conversation, with the Rep's AD--was sort of the same way...mostly fascinating, sometimes profound, often funny, a little dark, & sometimes annoying. Still I feel I ought to know more about his work. I probably ought to know a lot more about things written after 1700. Oh well...
All my roomies are back home now, doing homework (or avoiding it as the case may be...which actually may be all of us). It's a good group we've got here--we have a chore schedule set up now, & loads of power strips in the living room so we can all plug in our computers & do homework together (read: distract each other).
& yet I'm still feeling lonely. (I don't need to ask why.) And I'm having strange dreams (the two are only partially connected). & the fact that I'm starting to write about that here is a good sign that it's a) later than I should be online & b) time for homework...
