Wow. Seriously.
Mar. 24th, 2004 02:55 pmFirst off, I would like to say that we at NWS have absolutely the coolest teachers anywhere.
They called us in for a meeting during philosophy/writing time just now, because they'd had their senior-faculty meeting last night and, I suppose, realized the import of senior skip day. So we had a meeting about it. And I was thinking, oh, great, they're going to be all administratory and shut us down or something. Or make us feel terribly guilty for taking a day off or something. And so we talked about it, and people said things, and they were impassioned and honest and the whole thing was really very intense...
Thank you, Samantha. By the way. And Melody. And people who said things well. And overall, I think things actually turned out rather good.
They thought we weren't taking El Salvador people into account or something...and they really didn't want to allow two skip days (how they can stop us from not coming to school I'm not entirely sure) and everyone was just a bit screwy. So we talked.
And they heard what we said, which was nice (Scott making the comment that nearly nowhere else would we actually be having this conversation). Daniel proposed that we take this skip day, the Friday, and then when the El Salvador people get back, we have a school-sanctioned field day, with fun things to do as a whole class.
And we talked some more. And then they left and had a small confrence, and came back and said: it's not a skip day. We're giving the day to you, go, take it, have fun. And then later we'll have a party, when everyone's here.
So not everyone was happy about the decision. But I was. Maybe because I like to have everyone happy with outcomes, when everyone's right, and maybe I'm just too idealistic but I liked it. And I still think our teachers rock.
I am going to go home, and work, I suppose. Because I didn't yesterday (instead had a bizarre afternoon with Lyss and Liseth, and...well...it was bizarre). And then I go to the Bathhouse to meet with CWS people. That should be interesting....
Intense. Yeah. Everything this afternoon is.
