"Our previous PM, Kjell Magne Bondevik, is opening a peace centre in Oslo. After publicly announcing the centre's name, he didn't register the domain name right away, so--and I'm not making this up--the Tvedestrand Pirate Organisation bought it and said that he had to fulfill at least one of their five demands before they'd give it to him. The demands were that he 1) meet them at their pirate clubhouse "The Black Raven", 2) open a bridge in Tvedestrand, 3) live according to Arne Næss's principles of deep ecology, 4) become a member of the Tvedestrand Pirate Organisation or 5) admit that he has no sense of humor.
On Saturday he went to their pirate clubhouse, became a member of the organisation, promised to try to live by the principles of deep ecology and build a bridge in Tvedestrand. By doing all of this, he also effectively proved that he does have a sense of humor."
It makes me want to begin a Seattle Pirate Organisation....
In other news, our plenary today was on "Evolution & Faith: What's At Stake?" and I was expecting it to be interesting, but I was tired, and didn't care to sit through a lecture. But oh, man, was I wrong--it was amazing. His talk was thoughtful and informative, and mentioned so many thinkers and books that I really want to go read now, and said so many things about faith and evolution and the synthesis of the two that just made me smile and think, Yeah, that's pretty much it right there.
( Deep time & Providence )
Mmm, I doubt that made much sense, as I'm getting really tired and my brain is a little less than coherent right now. But it was really fabulous...and I think I'm going to bed soon.
