On Monday--that's yesterday, yes...I can keep track of days here--I got to work on my monologue in class. There are thirteen of us, and three classes to work them before midterms; Amanda is basically doing a crash-course for each of us, twenty-five minutes in the hotseat. And so far it's working astoundingly well. I really love watching everyone working on their monologues, getting pushed and prodded and pulled by Amanda. Also there is great variety which is a feat unheard-of, considering there are twelve girls of all the same age.

I got to work on mine yesterday...and as usual everything works much better on its feet. Amanda told me about Derry storytellers and had me play with walls and I sang* and had discoveries. Also I pretty much love that woman beyond anything ever. She is the most incredible acting teacher--she is constantly pushing you to try something new or to do something challenging but is also wonderfully encouraging at the same time. I feel very safe. I like that.

In other news, the revolution of CID** continues. Blargh. That class...I will just scream.

On the other hand, we have to devise (in Devising...of course) something based on a play we all know, incorporating all the things we have worked on in class so far. Our group is doing Waiting for Godot, and am I bad to find it hilarious that we spend about ten minutes at the outset just waiting and looking at the audience? Aha. Our goal is to do it until it feels uncomfortably long, then do it a bit longer...then go to the next bit. Oh theater.

And also I really like Dublin. I miss some things about home. But I really like Dublin.

*So Amanda thought that 'Port of Amsterdam' was from Threepenny Opera, but I Googled it and found no connection at all...I did find the lyrics, but they are all different. Oh Frank McGuinness, why do you make it so hard.

**Have I not talked about this? I don't know if I want to. It makes me frustrated just thinking about it. Long story short: Contemporary Irish Drama class teacher is condescending; changes her mind about what she wants in assignments every single bloody class; lectures in a bad way; is rude; will not let us finish talking when we get to talk, which is rarely; interrupts us to ask snappily Have we read the outline? when we try to ask clarifying questions in class; gets incredibly defensive very quickly so it is impossible to suggest anything; and is giving us practically no freedom at all on the final essay (but that's my personal pet peeve). We turned in written evals last week, and the saint Megan (who works for IES) is having a meeting with her to go over them on Thursday. I would not have that job for a thousand pound.
