kitchen day
Jan. 24th, 2009 03:16 pmI did not go to the library today; that will be Monday, the first day of the week, the day of academia. Instead, today, I cooked. A lot. & cleaned up after myself. A lot.
I made:
Pumpkin butter, with pumpkin, honey, brown sugar, spices, lemon juice and vanilla; it was an experiment based on Trader Joe's ridiculously tasty pumpkin butter. It tastes all right--I think I put in too much cloves (hence the vanilla, which cuts it fairly well), & I think I should cook it longer next time, but for a first attempt it's not bad.
Lentil soup, with lentils, potatoes, onions & garlic, and fire-roasted tomatoes. I swear this thing simmered for ever, but really I think it was only an hour. It's really good. I topped it with a little grated cheese & mmm nom nom, perfect winter lunch!
Hummus! I put in far too much garlic, which is not a thing you will usually hear me say! Bu you know what is really amazing? Hummus on crackers topped with pomegranate seeds. Very unusual & crunchy.
& there is bread rising on the stove, & I'm about to go make either cookies or muffins & possibly both, depending on what ingredients I have.
I don't think I would really enjoy it, in the long-term, but sometimes I think about opening a small restaurant & just cooking all the time. Mmm. :)
