God bless Ki Gottberg.
She walked out of the acting studio just now after working with Elspeth's scene & asked how R&J was going. I said it was coming along, I mostly just watched the fights at this point, but it looked good. & then she sat right down next to me & goes, "you were pretty sad to not get that part, right?"
"I was mostly sad to not be in it at ALL," I said, "but yeah."
She said it was down to me & her--which I said we knew, we'd both known--& that the reason, in her talks with Stephanie, that Annie-Rose was cast was that she read as much younger than I did. Which makes sense. & then she told me a bunch of things that I need to remember:
That because I am so small & physically young-looking I will always be up for young parts, until I get too obviously old for them;
That as an actor I come off as mature and pulled-together;
That if I want to get cast in all those young parts I need to let loose & act young in auditions, open myself up completely to that;
& that (when I told her what I was using for ACT tomorrow) I should cut loose & play Portia as very young & very open.
I just...thank you, Ki, for being the first person to give me some straightforward talk about why I wasn't cast & what I can do for the future. I asked Stephanie for audition feedback if she'd be willing & never got a response--& lovely Ki just sits down without a thought & in two minutes rattles out exactly what I need to pursue. Thank you.
