Back to the laboratory!

I feel like I've just been dropped back into reality from somewhere with a lot fewer worries. Not that I ever left reality, not really. But this was the week that Joel came to visit, and for the weekend especially I got to just enjoy his company, and pretend that we don't actually live hundreds of miles apart; and be silly and have ridiculous amounts of fun. (Just as an example, I would say that when we went to Malahide we bypassed going into the historical castle in favor of playing on the enormous and amazing playground nearby. Not that castles aren't awesome. But you can't swing on them.)
Now I'm writing papers, which although I find them utterly stupid, I am in a weird way okay with since they are taking my mind off thinking. If that sounds funny to you, you should know that both these papers have really bad prompts, and I am in no way attempting to make them good. They have the clumsiest transitions and stupidest writing I have done yet. But hey, they're distracting. And that's what I need.
