May. 19th, 2005 09:55 pmToday I got to put on my director's hat...not that I knew I had one. Directing is a trip, my lord...a weird dichotomy between "oh, hurrah, efficiency and good staging*" and "good lord, i am an utter power whore, what am i doing?"
*This is not to say that otherwise we don't have good staging. We do. It's just weirder when you're the outside eyes.
It's been really interesting to self-direct these scenes...more or less it's been fairly easy, since except for the big massive fight scene there's always one of us offstage to watch from the outside perspective--which I find utterly necessary. I don't think I could handle being an actor-director in the same show...I can't direct myself confidently (or well, I think). Luckily all four of us are fantabulous people with lots of theater experience and hilarious staging ideas. *grin* (Oh. And we're totally modest, too. *snerk*)
Also as I was walking down Broadway from the bus, I was stopped by a nice looking middle aged man who asked me kindly if I would do him a favor "that would only take me a minute, and wouldn't cost me a dime."
I asked what it was, and he said, "I'll give you seventeen dollars, and you go into the record store and buy what's on hold for Harry."
Naturally, I asked why he couldn't do it himself, and he said, "well, I'm in a lawsuit with them and I don't want to go into the store, but they have what I want."
....I said no. He was awfully polite, but. Deal with your lawsuits yourself, m'dear...not getting implicated. Heh.
