Oh, here I go again, procrastinating. Cripes. (But staying up till three...I dunno. It's gotta happen sometimes.)

I auditioned for the student directed one acts, and got to do a David Mamet monologue (from 'Oleanna'), wherein I got to be angry and self-righteous, which is always fun. And all nine (!) of the auditors were making "good, very good" noises as I left, so, um, YAY. Probably the best feeling in the world.

And then Jet City, the last bit, and going up on stage because no one else volunteered, and Andrew saying, "now, what's your name?" *snerk* Right. I think I get to see Carol and Andrew Tuesday...should be thrilling.

And now I really have to sleep...rehersal tomorrow. And then, y'know, papers. Like hell. Plus actual homework. Oh, shit...I slacked off too much again...

Oh my god, I am in love. I am in love with a building. To be perfectly frank, I am madly in love with our new theater and fine arts building. (Now, don't get me wrong--the Bathhouse will forever be my one true love. But this...this is gorgeous.)
We went over to the new building after the read through today, Ki with her videocamera, recording Carol opening the door and all of us streaming into the front lobby. The building was originally an auto dealership, and Carol (who helped design it) wanted them to keep some of that character--so the big concrete pillars are still in the walls, with high glass windows in between; and the cieling is the same golden wood. The entrance to the theater proper is a tunnel, four red walls that get smaller as you pass through them, with draped red velvet curtains on the cieling--a nod to traditional dramatic set. There's double doors opening into the actual theater, which is a black box--but not a black box like, say, something from the Center House. Oh no. This room is huge--and the walls are purple; and there's a catwalk on two sides, perfectly usable for performance which can have stairs attached to it; the seating can be arranged in any position that fits, and there are entrances in all four corners plus two sides, plus one above for the catwalk. On the north wall is a large hydraulic door that opens to the scene shop, which is gleaming white and full of boxes. Everything in the theater is new and painted and shiny and clean and amazing.
And there is an actual green room--and one wall is in fact green--with a full blown kitchen, I kid you not, stove and fridge and microwave and sink and all. And amazing dressing rooms, walls covered in mirrors and bright lights, with a curtain to pull across the center so it can be either one dressing room or two.
And then the prop room, stuffed full of props; and the costume shop, racks of costumes and two cutting tables, new sewing machines, wide windows opening onto twelfth street.
Carol said this was the first building on campus whose doors open out to the community rather than facing inwards towards campus. About time.
God, it was so incredible walking through there...I think we called it a continual theatrical orgasmic experience. I think my jaw was open more than not; my eyes must have been incredibly wide; I kept making little noises where my breath would come out but I couldn't actually say anything. Serious glory, right there. This is going to be an effing awesome show.

*It's making me think again about majoring in theater, which is more than I need, but right now I couldn't care less. Add that to Rosa (one of the theater teachers) practically soliciting me to be a major yesterday...ehehe. Wow. Too much.

* Also too much homework, but...I can handle it. It's just two papers, yeah? Yeah.
