Hell YES I want to go...
Oct. 5th, 2006 03:32 pmSo I have finally gone & signed myself up for an appointment at the study abroad center--what with Joel in India, Anne in Scotland, & me hearing amazing stories, & Philip heading off to Oxford in the spring, I am really itching to go outside the country soon. Plus there's the fact that next year I'll be a senior* & so it is really time for me to get my act together if I want to study abroad before I graduate. Because it would be sort of shameful not to, really.
*[Senior. Senior. In college. ...how? How did this happen?]
So now I am doing research. And I had no idea there were so many things one could study abroad. There's all the usual stuff--I'm mostly doing searches based on English or Literature, History, & Drama/Theatre, but this website has so many. Did you know you can study Aesthetics? Or Antiques? The Alexander Technique is on there, which thrilled me--for an acting program in London, which went right down on my list. Plus there's Aquaculture (anthropology of mermaids?), Bagpipes (can you imagine a whole class of them?), Batik, Beekeeping, Birdwatching (like Birdwatch gone overseas & on crack, I imagine), Camping (I assume that's more of a keyword than a subject area...), Castles (I want a whole semester on castles), Heraldry (I really want a whole semester on this), Dairy Production (...there are no words). Plus, on the list of I Want But Honestly Won't Get, I found Bookbinding (oh yes please!), Elizabethan England (...want!), Equestrian (unrealistic but so amazing) & Circus Skills (how kickass would that be?).
...right. This is probably more fun than it should be. I'm rather tempted to go into my appointment next week & say, I'd like to go to Austria and study Aquaculture, with side courses in Beekeeping and Circus skills, please... Of course it'll be more like I'd like to go to England & take courses in History, Theater, and Literature, or possibly a theater internship. And really, that's just as cool.
ETA, some minutes later: Oh my god. How are there so many amazing things out there? I found a Shakespeare, theater, & Elizabethan England studies program in London. I found a bunch of programs at Oxford (Oxford...) I...agh. I am making a total fool of myself in the reading room, trying not to squeal with excitement, & flailing my hands everywhere, & I really don't care. Ahaha! England!
