Oct. 6th, 2009 09:35 pmMy life--puppetry people puppets. Flying. Airstuff and theater. Yes.
The shows went really well this weekend, especially Saturday, where it felt really smooth and together and connected to the audience. I am learning to breathe with my puppet, and how to feel for feet and arms in the dark* and the number of steps it takes to get places without light.
[*Puppets' feet and arms. Although puppeteers' as well. There is a lot of inadvertent groping that happens backstage at a puppetry show, let me tell you. Good thing nobody cares.]
Sunday I was the only person who showed up to aerial class, which was good for progress and bad for my back, since we worked on back-balance in the hoop for a good twenty minutes. Oh, and spinning, which makes me dizzy....how do people do this? Ridiculous. Yet I am determined.
Goal: Work out more on my own time between classes; I will never proceed apace if all I do is that ninety minutes once a week. Go running for cardio; go to the park for climbing; do situps and pushups everyday, you big baby. Don't give up.
Monday was second to last day at the cruise line, and it was also the day that a bunch of scanners decided not to work, so I spent a good twenty minutes sitting under our desk and hiding so no one would come up to my station and find a broken computer. People were in a good mood though, and they are all so friendly. Manuel hit on me some more, as usual. Bill said he would miss me, which is mutual--what a crazy old man. I will be glad to be done with this job, but I will miss the people.
Monday night I saw Lady Day at Strawshop, which was incredible--Felicia V Loud was wicked good. This whole Biograph series Strawshop has going sort of throws the spotlight on actors imitating people--which, y'know, is what we do all the time; but having them be biographies somehow makes me pay closer attention to the incredible specificity. Or maybe it's just that I have seen some stunning performances there recently (Lady Day; MJ in the Elephant Man).
& then it was Casey's 21st birthday, which was fantastic--hanging out at the Redwood, drinks and fries and talking to an always-rotating bunch of fabulous people; then migrating to the Crescent for ridiculous karaoke and more drinks and dancing and singing along. These people? These people are just GREAT is all. Just fantastic.
Today I slept in. Ha. & then I met up with Molly....I really need to see her more often. She is like a warm welcoming mountain in the wilderness of life, or at least a warm fellow-traveler who is also totally lost in the wilderness of life, and is one of the few people with whom I feel able to talk about nearly anything at all.
I also went Halloween shopping at Value Village, where I a) found some good stuff for the mod I am planning & b) ran into ALLIE YAY who I was so happy to see. We poked around VV together and made plans for sailing and climbing trees and circusing, which I am thrilled for.
& then I went into the office & have been here far too late, especially since I should be in early tomorrow morning. Egads. Time to go home and sleep, I think....
