All right. This is beyond ridiculous. I am sick of fighting with my OS. Does anyone on this flist either work for Microsoft, or know someone who works for Microsoft, that can get me XP at an employee discount? I am not quite ready to buy it at full price, yet, but I want XP back. Anyone able to hook me up?

Sign up for Microsoft Playtesting (http://www.microsoft.com/playtest/default.mspx). It might be a while before they call you in, but you get free software -- it's how I got XP Pro.

The U(c) computer store generally has OSs for $25-- I'd have to double-check to see if they still carry XP. Your campus computer store mmight as well.

Also, if you get the restoration disk for the old computer, it should have XP on it.

I'll check. The impression I got from the IT people was that it was closer to full price...I'm not sure.

I can't find the restoration disk for the old one yet. Also, would it matter that that disk is for emachine & this computer is an acer?

...possibly. It depends on the kind of recovery disk it is. Really they should have just given you a disk with XP on it and a separate one for the drivers. I'd use it on the old one first, see how it works, then see what you can do with the new one.
