I just finished reading Court Duel...a novel from my middleschool days, although it's actually quite good. Lots of court intrigue, secret notes, languages of gestures and fans and saying one thing but meaning another. I'm sort of fascinated by all of that--every once in a while I think wouldn't it be interesting to live in a time like that...and then I think, oh. Right. I do. Because we still do that, although it isn't so obvious--it isn't deadly plots, but I notice sometimes when I say something, I'm not being entirely clear--I'm hoping someone will pick up on the hint instead. Things like that. Probably because I don't want to be rude, or blunt, or whathaveyou. But I still want to be honest (I thank the gods I am not poetical...:)). Can't you write poetry and be an honest person at the same time?

Also there was an article in the Times today about a local classics society (which reminds me, I should go read the Iliad. Argh)...and someone, the teacher I think, said it said a lot about you, whether you preferred Achilles as a hero or Odysseus as one. So what does it say that I love Odysseus and think Achilles was a moping idiot? So Odysseus was sly and crafty and egotistical--but he was damned clever, and he got home in the end, didn't he? Not his fault half Olympus had a grudge against him. :) Somehow, as Melissa said, I didn't really picture the famous rage of Achilles as him sitting sulking in his tent for most of the book. Bah.

Anyway, I should go read things. I was all useful this morning and learned all about bank statements and the necessity of writing everything down (kicks self), and now I should do more productive things this evening I guess...bah.

hi, Tano. :)

If you want to kick him where it hurts, you'll be wanting to do much worse when the book ends. :D

You got to read the Iliad for school, okay now I'm offically jealous. All I ever had to read for school were whiney always- depressing- and- bad- ending books. I'd have killed to be allowed to read the Iliad.

I'm an honors program...which means they stuff classics down our throats and hope we remember it two years later.

Yeah. Kind of. :) I'm looking forward to it, though...about a week till I start. Eeeek!
