The Halloween costume is proceeding apace...I'm still not entirely certain what exactly it is. I was going to be a zombie steampunk something, but my goggles are going to need a lot more work than I have time for before Saturday, so the steampunkery is on the shelf for later. The basis for the entire thang is a vaguely Wild West-saloon girl ensemble, which is coming together half well. I am kicking ass on the skirt; I dyed a hideously pink thing into a bright red, & added layers on layers of tulle (all by myself, aren't you proud). It's a bit small for me, really, but if I wear it high on my waist it works fine. Plus it's poofy & I love it.
The top, however, is giving me frustrations. Perez insisted I buy a shirt that I found at Lifelong last week which, I admit, is sort of perfect for the saloon girl look--it's sleevless, black/maroon pinstriping, scalloped around the bosom and ruffles framing said bosom area. Then I went & tried it on with my newly died skirt & holy cow do those colors clash. Painfully. Plus the cut of it doesn't really fit. So...*sigh* I'll pass that on to someone who can use it, & try something else.
Attempt two: I have a cute sleevless fluffy white shirt with ruffles--it looks vaguely like Edwardian underclothes, actually--& a fantastic black velvet bodice that I bought many years ago. Sadly this bodice was a wee bit small when I bought it & already falling apart; I've filled out (call it what you will) since then, & I have just spent far too long on lots of repairs....oh yikes. I think I am going with this (planning to sew some kickass white fringe all along the top), but I am slightly afraid that if I breathe too deeply during party it may all fall off of me. Oh dear.
On the plus side, I have awesome boots and a gun which I am building a garter-holster for, so. There you are.
Plus I'm thinking I may just zombie-fy the entire ensemble anyway, in which case who cares? It's a ZOMBIE. :)
Also, in watching the Colbert Report on hulu while costuming, I came across the real, actual reason you should vote to approve Ref. 71:
