I just walked into Xavier after history--a good class as it always is but not special beyond that, today--sort of tired, knowing I had masses of reading to do before ushering tonight. I check my mailbox and what do I have? Four postcards (count 'em, four) and a letter. I feel so incredibly loved. It utterly made my day, the happiness that comes from peeking into my shadowy mailbox and seeing piles of paper written just for me.

In other news, I finished my Athena-Juno paper and handed it in; finished my geography paper and handed it in; have lots and lots of Plato to read for tomorrow, and this weekend will be FABULOUS. Hee. UW Costume Sale on Saturday, added to the loveliness of seeing Patrick and Rachel, who I haven't seen in what feels like forever--we're going to get breakfast together. And then I'm spending the night at home and working on the bat musical all Sunday. Yippee!

And I stole a book meme from [livejournal.com profile] katmaxwell...

Hardback or Paperback? Old books, hardback; newer ones, paper, usually. I like to carry books around with me everywhere and paper is lighter; but on the other hand I love few things more than an old hardback book. So, either.

Highlight or Underline? Underline, usually. I don't like highlights so much. But pencil underline--you should see my schoolbooks, yegods.

Lewis or Tolkien? Tolkien at the moment--only because I don't remember Lewis so well. I want to re-read the Narnia books--I think they were the first fantasy series I read, on the train down to California when I was little. (There's photographic proof, too. Hee.)

E.B. White or A.A. Milne? Both by default, only because it's been forever since I've read either and I don't remember very much. I adore both, though.

T.S. Eliot or e.e. cummings? Uh. Um. I can't keep saying Both but dammit! It depends, it really does.

Stephen King or Dean Koontz? Er...I've never read either, actually.

Barnes & Noble or Borders? Used bookstores! Down with chains, up with independents! Haha...but between them, probably B&N since they're closer to my house and have cool murals in their coffeshops.

Waldenbooks or B. Dalton? Uh, neither.

Fantasy or Science Fiction? Um. Fantasy is my cocoon of childhood, so fantasy I suppose. Seeing as it is an either or question.

Horror or Suspense? I don't really go in for either....

Bookmark or Dogear? Usually bookmark--well, usually, scrap of paper or whatever is handy. I dogear dollar-fifty weird books I buy from Magus, though.

Hemingway or Faulkner? Faulkner--ding! (Hehe, Ives...) Not read enough of either of choose.

Fitzgerald or Steinbeck? The only works of their I've read is The Great Gatsby and Grapes of Wrath. On that basis, Fitzgerald all the way.

Homer or Plato? What? They are completely different categories! Agh! Uh. The Odyssey is the best epic poem of all time, so Homer I guess. But Plato is damn fun to swear at while reading, I have to say.

Geoffrey Chaucer or Edmund Spenser? Again I haven't read enough of either. Little bits of both, I'd say. Either one in excess is a little much. (Although any poem called the "Fairie Queene" is good to me; and yelling Chaucer standing on a dead fountain in Portland after dark is also good.)

Pen or Pencil? Pencil. Unless I'm taking notes in class, because I took them in pencil first quint of 11th grade and they all got smudged.

Loose-leaf or Notepad? Notepad. Those happy recycled ones from the UW Bookstore.

Alphabetise? Haha, yes....I spent way too long alphabetizing my shelf at home. My shelf at college isn't organized at all, though.

Dust jacket? Naw...only if the book's sitting on my shelf. If it's being read I take off the jacket.

Novella or Epic? Depends. I like some of both.

John Grisham or Scott Turow? Haha, never read either.

J.K. Rowling or Lemony Snicket? Rowling, I guess...I started to read Snicket but didn't get into it so much. I haven't really tried. Also Rowling gave us the Mauraders, so I have to choose her.

John Irving or John Updike? Never read either. Again. *cringe*

Fiction or Non-fiction? Fiction...although I've started reading popular science books (I know, it sounds so pathetic) and they're really interesting.

Historical Biography or Historical Romance? It depends on if I'm feeling scholarly or....not. Hehe.

A Few Pages per Sitting or Finish at Least a Chapter? At least a chapter, of course. Usually more than one.

Short Story or Creative Non-fiction Essay? Usually short story.

"It was a dark and stormy night" or "Once upon a time"? Heh..."Once upon a time it was a dark and stormy night." Uh...both. They lead everywhere.

Buy or Borrow? If someone else has it at hand, borrow. Also, borrow from the library. I'm a broke cheapskate, so I usually only buy if I know I will read it many many times and cherish it like my own child. Which I do. Far too often. Also, used bookstores = heaven.

Book Reviews or Word of Mouth? Word of mouth. I read the book reviews sometimes and think, Aha, that looks interesting! And then I never end up reading the books.

I'm going to write some letters now...and then read Plato. Yeee-es. Today is good. Very, very good.

UW Costume Sale on Saturday

When and where is this costume sale? I still haven't found anything to wear for Halloween (I have this horrid feeling I'm going to dress up as McGoogles and walk around harrassing people...) and this may be helpful! :D

If I don't tell, you'll dress up at McGoogles? Will you anyway? :)

It's at Hutchinson Hall, i assume--the theater building, north campus. It's from 12-4. I will be there! Probably about one.

I was kinda planning on being McGoogles anyway. (If only because when I said I should be Lupin my mother stared at me and went, "You're never anything normal for Halloween, are you? OH! BE MCGONAGALL!" ...my mother's insane, obviously.)

:giggles madly:

Hutchinson Hall. I'll figure out where that is. You'll be there around one? Haha, we must meet and be geeks.

Awesome possum!

Underlining in pencil destroys books much less than highlighting, and also doesn't look so…glaring.

I get really annoyed whenever a used textbook has really bright underlining all over the place.

It's best not to do either, which was sort of my point.

Well, I find it useful in schoolbooks...and I'm going to keep all my books anyhow.
