Wanting two different, conflicting things at once is confusing. Unfortunately, it's also the state I've been in essentially all week. This isn't the first time I've been in that state, but it's not any better than previously... I think, actually, that most of life is spent in that state--except that usually you're just in the hinterlands, or sometimes the rural outposts, where the conflict is minimized by a lack of importance or severity. Now, I am closer to the capitol city, & it's a little crazier here.
Yesterday--was that yesterday?--I hung out with Philip & Kayla and Noel & Anneka & Kaya & Abbey & Abbey's little brother Will. (I got in the car next to him when Abbey drove to Greenlake, & he announced, "Rules for Riding in the Car With Will! One: No swearing." A pause. "Okay, that's all.")
We went swimming in Greenlake--the first time I have done that in a long while. The water, as usual, was both refreshing and terrifyingly cold; Abbey had to drag me out past the rope, & when she tried to get me to dunk--even though I insisted that I wanted to, I wouldn't--I actually screamed several times. It was fun. We jumped off the dock & got water up our noses (or maybe that was just me) & took pictures, & then my camera got left in Abbey's purse instead of my bag.
That's the reason you won't be getting pictures, yet, of what else I did yesterday, which was take a tour of Theo's Chocolate Factory. Beautiful! Plus tasty chocolate. Expect a longer post, with pictures, once I get my camera back.
Today was spent sleeping in, playing Wii at Joel's house, lounging around doing absolutely nothing, & drinking tea & reading. I read an entire book (The Ramsay Scallop) while he worked his way though Dark Lord of Derkholm. I am slowly succeeding in my mission to get everyone around me to read Diana Wynne Jones books.
The other thing that happened this week is that I wrote something--fiction, I mean, for the first time since a long time. Not only that but it connects up with something else I'd written, so there's potential. It's nice to have potential.
In other news, both my Ireland entrance documents and my Irish cell phone arrived in the mail, so the only thing I have left to do is pack. That's a big item, of course, but...hey. It's one. On Wednesday morning, I'll be in Ireland.
