Things I Love Thursday
Feb. 4th, 2010 12:53 pmThe weekly love-fest!
* Planning for trips! Patrick, Anna & I are going to Ashland over my birthday weekend to see three plays and generally be awesome in the theater-town of wonder. We're seeing Hamlet, Well and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. I have seriously been zoning out and daydreaming about this over the past few days. I have been itching to go somewhere, and a theater trip with two of my favorite people (and future polygamous husband and wife) sounds pretty much perfect.
*Connie Willis. I have a huge book of novellas/short stories of hers out of the library right now and am loving it. Honestly--she is one the best writers I have ever read, especially for solid plots and genuinely funny comedy, both of which are very hard to do. I reccomend EVERYTHING she has ever written (though I do have favorites--To Say Nothing of the Dog and several short stories). Also of note--one of the few writers to write about time travel in a way that actually for real makes sense. A high accomplishment!
* Auditions. Okay...so I don't always love the audition or the work of finding the right monologues, but what I DO love is that it means opportunities for acting are coming around! I have a slot for TPS generals, I am getting a slot for Strawshop, and I'm about to email Greenstage for a slot. (I really, really, beyond incredibly want to do Shakespeare in the park this summer. And that is all I will say about that.*)
[*This is a total lie.]
*Having more money in my account than I thought. Even after buying a bunch of stuff I had to buy that was more expensive than I wanted it to be. 'Nuff said.
* Austen Night. PBS just re-started their Austen series, which means Sunday nights are at the girls' apartments with pie and Austen-themed TV, which is lovely all around. This weekend is the conclusion of Emma, with much heartbreak and then romance! Love it.
Other things: Cookies that I made (and am eating way too many of); the fact that so far SMing mostly involves chatting with Sydney and Erica (director and fantastic ASM, respectively); my new rain boots for elfing, which I am wearing around; the SUN TODAY, beautiful; planning for guruilla dinners; respecting the ambiguity.
