Saturday: Wind reading canceled; I went to the Design Studio instead, after traveling to Utrecht & spending far too much money on metal and wood. I attempted to build things & cut things straight, which I failed at; I attempted to solder, which I more or less failed at; I got frustrated & upset & cried a lot. Andrew showed up in the afternoon with a cork-backed ruler (look! I'm capable of cutting things now!) to stave off a total nervous breakdown; I managed to get some work done.

That night was the Galileo reading, to which two people came (Max, who wonderfully comes to everything, & my parents' houseguest)--but it went really well, & it was actually done which was the point anyway.

Sunday: Slept in some. Reading of Alice in the park...I am really excited about this play. Many wonderful people are in it (Andrew & I are planning to somehow initiate Davey Duke & Josh to become a new quintet; Jared's missing, but Emma & Marta are there, so we can still be awesome together). I'm playing the Frog Footman, the March Hare, & a playing card, & we all get to do silly voices & songs & dances to entertain small children. Huzzah!
Then I managed to be an ass & skip Wind rehearsal to work on my design project again. Sara was there, so we complained together. I did get a lot of work done but was there until about nine or ten, which is ridiculous.

It ended up being a far more stupidly emotional weekend than I wanted it to be, on many levels. I really hate being stupidly emotional. But I got my project done enough yesterday night (was in the studio from 4:30-10, with a dinner break), so I'm okay. Almost done with school. Almost.

Today, after not getting up to an alarm (oh, but I love Fridays) & eating a large breakfast of more than cereal, I biked over to Matt Smucker's studio & got taught how to solder.

Soldering is awesome!. How have I not tried it before? I mean, I like fire--so this isn't exactly fire, but it's heat--& I like art, & this is just hardcore fun. Also very slightly dangerous, which only adds to the fun. Now I am carting around a soldering iron, solder, and flux (which sounds like a disease--I think it might be--rather than a soldering tool) in a cardboard box. I would much rather be in the design studio soldering bits of metal together for my set. Instead I am in the library sort-of putting together information on Tibet & China for my group meeting in an hour. It's not hard. It's just boring. I'd rather play with fire.

In other news, I have three script readings this weekend (readthrough for Inherit the Wind on Saturday & reading for Galileo that night; Alice readthrough on Sunday). I feel so actorlike.

Yesterday (after sleeping in, which my god is wonderful) I spent several hours in the design studio crafting things out of foamcore. Once I get into the swing of it all, it's actually pretty fun, and it's incredibly satisfying to fit things together & have them work, and to pin and glue and wield sharp exacto knives into unsuspecting paper. Of course I'm making all the choices that makes my model-building harder--I want to use the catwalk, & I'll be hanging things from the grid, which means I need to build both of those instead of leaving them to the imagination. And I want to use the windows in the back wall instead of covering them up with drapes, & since I don't actually have any measurements except those from the groundplan (so I don't know how tall they are or how high off the ground), I had to make it up, & then sneak into the Lee Center during Maureen's tech rehearsal in order to estimate by peeking into the theater from a side-door.
But still. I love having the finished model box, a 1/4" scale empty theater that I could fill with anything I wanted. It's pretty thrilling.

Today I go to read for Inherit the Wind...am still waiting on emails for Alice in Wonderland. I need to know schedules! Oh so much theater. And after that is FOLKLIFE! Never mind that my throat hurts & I sound like a frog-lady & every once in a while I cough like the world is ending. I don't care. Folklife!
